IF YOU USE GPS, MAKE SURE IT GOES TO THIS LOCATION.
Also make sure you have enough time to get there.
Our outing will be at Montreat in Black Mountain, about 25 minutes east of downtown Asheville. We meet on site. Do not rely on your GPS until you make sure it matches these directions or you will very likely get lost. Also keep in mind that once you leave the interstate, you will probably NOT have cell phone signal. You may not have GPS reception either. So make sure you print or save these directions beforehand and follow them precisely.
These directions are from Greenlife Grocery (our local Whole Foods). We recommend buying snacks or even a picnic lunch for after the tour, as well as “using the facilities” while you’re there.
Remember that if you’re planning to bring some of our “catch of the day” to one of our partner restaurants, you MUST make a special reservation (see here).
Directions
Montreat Conference Center
Lookout Trail
From Greenlife Grocery, head south on Merrimon Avenue towards downtown for a tenth of a mile and get on I-240 East. In about 3.7 miles, take I-40 East.
In 11 miles take exit 64 for Black Mountain. Turn left off the ramp onto Route 9 north and go two and a half miles. You will enter the gate for Montreat, and the road will become Assembly Drive. Go one mile and turn right onto Lookout Road. Go .6 mile, passing the chapel and going up a hill. Turn into one of the two small primitive parking areas on the right. If the road turns to gravel, you’ve just missed them. You can park in either lot. If they look full, have someone hop out and check before you go in. If necessary, park on the road instead.
We will meet in the upper lot.
